CHICAGO (May 19, 2015) – Alderman Margaret Laurino (39th) was sworn in Monday for a new term to continue representing her northwest side ward and serving in the Chicago City Council.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, City Clerk Susana Mendoza, Treasurer Kurt Summers, Alderman Laurino and her 49 colleagues took their oath of office as part of Monday’s inauguration ceremony at the Chicago Theatre.
“I am honored to be serving the residents of the 39th Ward as well as the people of the City of Chicago,” said Laurino. “There are many challenges and opportunities ahead of us. I look forward to addressing them by working together with all of my colleagues.”
Laurino will continue to serve as the City Council’s President Pro Tempore. In that role, she presides over council meetings when Mayor Emanuel is absent from the council floor.
She also oversees the City Council Legislative Reference Bureau. The bureau performs a wide range of functions for the members of the council including impartial research and the preparation of ordinances for introduction.
Laurino won reelection in February without a runoff against two challengers.
