City Council Update 4/19/2017

April 19, 2017

Updates from the April 19 City Council Meeting:

Alderman Laurino is a co-author of an ordinance that protects hotel workers. Over half of all female housekeepers report that they have been sexually harassed. The ordinance requires hotels to equip employees who work in a guest room or rest room with a panic button at no charge to the employees. Hotels also must develop a sexual harassment policy and comply with it.

The City Council also passed an ordinance establishing the Municipal Identification Card Program. This card can be used as an official form of identification in the City. There are still details to be worked out including how to obtain an identification card and the start date of this program. We will provide additional information when it becomes available.
