Protect yourself from property fraud

November 13, 2014

According to the FBI, property fraud is the fastest growing type of white collar crime. Unscrupulous people record forged documents to make it appear that they own property which they do not. The criminals may then occupy, take mortgages against, or rent out those properties.

Here's a link to a story about the problem on Fox News Chicago. The story highlights a recent case where squatters attempted to take fraudulent ownership of a home in the 39th Ward. Fortunately in that case Alderman Laurino's office worked closely with the 17th District Police, and the criminals were removed decisively by a SWAT team.
