Over the Fourth of July holiday, the 39th Ward Public Service Office always receives a large volume of calls regarding illegal fireworks.  We want to remind residents that all fireworks are illegal in Chicago.

The Chicago Police Department passed along the following information regarding the dangers of fireworks:

  • Children under the age of 15 suffered 45% of all injuries from fireworks. 72% of these injuries are to males of all ages. These injuries include trauma to the eyes, fingers, and face.
  • Firecrackers cause the greatest number of injuries, followed by bottle rockets and sparklers.
  • Parents can be criminally responsible for child endangerment if they permit their children to use fireworks.

The 17th District Chicago Police Department recommends enjoying Fourth of July fireworks tradition by attending professional fireworks displays.  The city of Chicago's fireworks display will be held on Navy Pier, Saturday, July 4 at 9:30 PM.

If you see anyone using or selling fireworks, please call 911.  It could save a life.
