Urban trees bring a host of benefits. In addition to adding beauty and improving personal health, they improve air quality, reduce noise pollution, lower heating and cooling costs, provide a habitat for wildlife and reduce the urban heat island effect. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District invests in trees because they absorb water and reduce soil erosion, thus reducing the volume of water in our sewer system.
