Alderman Laurino Announces New Roof for Palmer Elementary
Alderman Margaret Laurino (39th Ward) is pleased to announce that John M. Palmer Elementary School will receive a new roof. “This is a much needed, and well overdue, improvement,” Alderman Laurino said. The existing roof is so defective that the school has to put out buckets every time it rains. The water has damaged every part of the building, from the masonry to the drywall. The new roof will cost $10-15 million, and now the other parts of the building will be repaired. “I’ve been working with Principal Jennifer Dixon, the Local School Council, and the Friends of Palmer for the last six months to make this new roof a reality,” Alderman Laurino said. “Palmer is a great school, a Level 1+ school, and a model of diversity that works. A terrific school community like Palmer's deserves a great building.”
